Description
Nepenthes ‘Gaya’ is a tropical carnivorous plant resulting from a cross between Nepenthes khasiana and Nepenthes ventricosa. Native to Southeast Asia, this hybrid variety stands out for its great adaptability and ornamental beauty. Its colorful urns, in shades of red, pink and green, have an elegant, elongated shape, with a lid that prevents rainwater from diluting the digestive liquid. Insects, attracted by the nectar secreted on the rim, slide inside and are slowly digested.
My story with this plant began several years ago, when I acquired a young plant from a cutting. Since then, I’ve multiplied this Nepenthes with care, regularly taking cuttings to preserve the lineage and share this fascinating species with other enthusiasts.Nepenthes ‘Gaya’ lives at home in a bright interior, close to a south-facing window, where it enjoys soft light without direct sunlight. In summer, it can also be kept outdoors, as long as it avoids extreme heat and maintains a humid atmosphere.
The substrate I use is equal parts sphagnum moss and perlite, ensuring both aeration and moisture retention. Watering is done exclusively with rainwater or demineralized water, to avoid any accumulation of limestone.
