Description
Japanese medlar “Eriobotrya japonica”; ready to plant.
These seedlings measure between 10 and 30cm.
A curious shrub with a parasol-like habit and dense green evergreen foliage with serrated edges.
Easy to grow, the tree will flourish in containers or in the ground (in any type of soil) as long as the climate is temperate or even dry (average hardiness up to 10 degrees). It appreciates a sunny position, protected from the cold. Fast-growing, it forms a shrub a few metres tall with spectacular evergreen foliage.
At the beginning of summer, medlars bear massive fruit, delicious yellow fruits that can be eaten directly or cooked. Moderate watering, especially at planting and in the first year. Light structural pruning in frost-free autumn. No specific diseases or pests in my Mediterranean home.
