Description
Drosera filiformis is up to 30 cm long and grows vertically. Leaves covered with glandular cilia unfurl in spring and turn red in the sun. This Drosera grows in clumps, which greatly enhances its ability to catch insects, as they are quickly immobilized by the many sticky traps. Leaves are passive and do not bend when they come into contact with their prey.
Drosera filiformis overwinters in a hibernaculum. It can withstand frosts, but remains highly susceptible to fungal diseases.
In cultivation, this plant wakes up in March-April, unfurling increasingly large leaves. Flowering produces a 40 to 50 cm high flowering spike with fifteen mauve flowers. Self-pollinating, they give numerous seeds that germinate easily.
Growing the carnivorous plant Drosera filiformis

TEMPERATURE
Ideal temperatures: In the growing season 20-30 degrees, make sure not to exceed 40 degrees. During the 0-10 degree dormancy period, take care not to go below -5 degrees in the pot. Does very well in bogs, however. |

WATER and HYGROMETRY
|
|
LIGHT High light levels, especially during the growing season. A good luminosity allows a beautiful coloration and a good development of the plant. |
|
Growing season: February to November. Dormant period: November to January (during this period, watering should be limited to just a damp substrate). The plant loses all its traps and keeps all its energy in a kind of small bulb called hibernacle. |
