Description
Sarracenia x ‘alucard’ is an officially registered cultivar but in the form of a “grex”, meaning that any seedling resulting from a cross between a rubricorpora and a ‘Royal Ruby’ can technically be considered ‘Alucard’, as long as it matches the general description of the cultivar. The plant recorder made this nuance possible compared with the single cultivars usually recorded, as there was a certain homogeneity in the seedlings produced (to put it simply: big red plants).
Among this original cross made by Phil Faulisi, 2 clones stood out for their remarkable characteristics:
- The “Select” here, selected by Mike Wang
- The Prince of Darkness
The “Prince of Darkness” version presented here is an exceptional plant in the collection. When you see it for the first time, it’s hard to have a more attractive plant at the top of your “Most Wanted List”. That’s certainly been the case for me. Darker in the heart of the season than “Select” and with a different shape, PoD rises like the Prince of Darkness to tower over your entire collection.
Believe me, this plant will put a smile back on your face after the greyest of days.
Like “Select”, “Prince of Darkness” will reveal its full potential if it is allowed to establish itself over several seasons (between 3 and 5) in its pot. But the wait is truly rewarded by its unique and exceptional characteristics.
