The large-flowered butterwort<\/b>(Pinguicula grandiflora<\/i> Lam.) is a herbaceous<\/a> perennial<\/a> plant<\/a> of the Lentibulariaceae<\/a> family belonging to the genus
\n Pinguicula<\/a>
\n<\/i> (the butterworts).<\/p>\n

The large-flowered butterwort is a terrestrial plant of pastures, wet rocks and mountain bogs.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Pinguicula grandifolia is distinguished by its imposing purple flowers.<\/p>\n

Description<\/span><\/h2>\n

Large-flowered butterwort has soft green, oblong leaves with glandular hairs.<\/p>\n

The flowers are 3 to 5 cm<\/abbr> long, zygomorphic and have a varied color palette. Usually deep blue, it can be pale blue in Pinguicula grandiflora<\/i> subsp. grandiflora<\/i> f. pallida<\/i> or pink in Pinguicula grandiflora<\/i> subsp. rosea<\/i> (Mutel) Casper. Individuals with completely white flowers described as Pinguicula grandiflora<\/i> subsp. grandiflora<\/i> f. chionopetra<\/i> exist in a population in Ireland as well as near Bar\u00e8ges<\/a> in the French Pyrenees, or in an isolated way, in the Basque Country.<\/p>\n

It is a carnivorous plant<\/a>. It has a so-called semi-active system: the leaves are covered with glue that traps the insects that land on them and are then digested by the secreted juices.<\/p>\n

Biotope<\/span><\/h2>\n

It is a plant of mountain which appreciates the very wet grounds and the peaty grounds, the pastures and wet rocks of the high mountains.<\/p>\n

Location<\/span><\/h2>\n

It is found in the meadows of the mountains Pyrenees<\/a> in France, Andorra and Spain and even in the Catalan Corbi\u00e8res<\/a>1<\/a><\/span> but also in Ireland, in the Jura in France and in Switzerland, in the Bugey<\/a>in the Alps in France (Alps of Savoie and Haute Savoie (Gli\u00e8res, Col du Cable), Dauphin\u00e9, Provence) and in Italy, as well as in the Central Massif<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
